Visiting the museum and archive collections is easy and fun!
If you have a question about the history of Shelter Island, all you need to do is email us or give us a call and we will set up an appointment. We can also work with you on the phone or via a video call if you are not able to come visit in-person. Common inquiries involve researching properties with our House Registry, looking up family members, or even just certain periods of time on Shelter Island. We have over 100,000 maps, deeds, diaries, letters, photos and other historical documents as well as artifacts such as artwork, furniture, tools, textiles, vehicles, and house wares spanning the 17th through 21st centuries. To get an idea of some of the topics that are covered in our collection, you can see a sample of finding aids by clicking this link. We look forward to your visit!
