ELIZABETH PEDERSEN EDUCATION FUND

The Shelter Island History Museum Trustees, Staff and Volunteers mourn the loss of our beloved president, Elizabeth Pedersen.

Elizabeth passed away on July 25, 2019, having battled pancreatic cancer for four years. Her passing leaves a hole in our hearts. When Elizabeth became president, she was made aware of the possibility of losing the collection that had been preserved to a fire or some other disaster. Honoring those who had dedicated many years of work was what inspired her to provide the resources to preserve what they had accomplished. Her love for Shelter Island was made visible by her unparalleled gift to the Museum and to the Island. Her desire to be our "Education President" became a reality. Her vision to engage young people in history through the arts came to fruition through programs and exhibits. Her gift of the Elizabeth Pedersen Education Fund is meant to ensure the continuation of successful programs and the creation of new ones.

An angel on Earth, her grace, wisdom, & welcoming spirit will remain with all of us. We will remain forever grateful to have known and worked with her.
To donate by check: make the check out to "Shelter Island History Museum" with "Elizabeth Pedersen Education Fund" on the memo line.
