Welcome to The Shelter Island History Center!
1. Entrance
The entrance to the Center symbolizes a nexus of history: the “saltbox” Havens House, built in 1743, and the newly-constructed museum and archival space, designed by world-famous architect, William Pedersen, completed in 2019. Both venues are temperature and humidity controlled to the highest museum standards, in order to protect all the items in the collections. The paper archives are additionally preserved  in a secure vault.
